Reinstalling the mic drivers made no difference, but what did cure the problem was to reinstall the drivers for Game Controllers. I guess these are the drivers that interact remotely with others on the internet for all applications, including Zoom, MSTeams, Messenger, etc.

That is correct. You can go ahead and uninstall it and restart the Notebook. Windows will automatically look for the correct drivers and reinstall all the missing drivers once you restart. Ok Toad, i tried that. Uninstalled the mic driver, restarted the notebook.
Did a mic test on Zoom and it is the same. A big delay, then my voice really slowed down so much it is impossible to understand. It's weird. For that matter, if anyone has found a fix that lasts more than a couple hours Just start a zoom meeting and let it run You don't have to roll back the driver if you paused the windows updates, but I recommend you either do what I wrote, or run the hide windows update utility and see if it finds that update so you can permanently hide it.
The person on page 9 of that other discussion I posted, next to last post hadn't reported any further issues after installing the latest graphics driver from AMD. The rollback still works and is the official method to prevent Microsoft Windows Update from 'fixing' your driver. Just press the rollback button and it will leave you alone until a new official comes out.
